SHOULDER PAIN OVERVIEW:
There are many different kinds of shoulder injuries including; frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) shoulder bursitis, rotator cuff tears, dislocation. Shoulder pain and injuries can severely impact your daily activities.
Stiffness, soreness, muscle tears, painful movement, dull ache in the shoulder and even sharp stabbing pain are all common with the shoulder.
WHAT CAUSES SHOULDER PAIN?
The variety of shoulder problems have different causes.
Here are some of the common causes:
- Poor Posture
- Prolonged Sitting
- Trauma (Sports Injuries)
- Repetitive Movements
- Overuse (work Injuries)
- Poor Sleeping Position
- Underlying Disease or Pathology
Once other diseases have been ruled out, the most common cause of shoulder pain is poor spinal alignment/poor posture. If the bones of your spine are not aligned well, it places significant pressure on the bones, ligaments, muscles, discs and nerves surrounding the shoulder girdle.
This alignment issue creates all kinds of pain and dysfunction in the shoulder and surrounding areas.
MASK THE SYMPTOMS or CORRECT THE CAUSE?
There are two ways you can go about fixing shoulder pain.
1. MASK THE SYMPTOMS:
Mask the symptoms of the shoulder pain through medication, or ‘quick fix’ methods. Sure, this will help remove the immediate pain you are experiencing, however, it is not correcting the underlying cause of the problem, your spinal alignment.
The problem is likely to return.
Many people spend lots of time and money addressing the pain without ever addressing the cause of shoulder pain. They have many bouts of shoulder pain throughout their life. As they age, the duration and severity of their shoulder pain increases.
2. CORRECT THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM:
Instead of just masking the symptoms as they appear, you can look for what is causing the shoulder pain and resolve that issue.
Imagine having a stone in your shoe. It would cause pain every time you step on it. You could mask the pain by taking a panadol, putting a band-aid on your wound or wear some thick socks while you walk. Or, your could remove the stone. Chiropractic’s focus is ‘removing the stone.’
The ‘stone’ in the case of shoulder pain is poor spinal alignment/poor posture with the shoulders rounding forward.
HOW DOES CHIROPRACTIC HELP SHOULDER PAIN?
Chiropractic is fantastic at dealing with shoulder pain. At Proactive Health Chiropractic we have great success with helping people of all ages resolve shoulder pain.
We do this through assessing and correcting your posture. Your posture is your spinal alignment, how well your spinal bones balance.
By correcting your alignment, this takes pressure of the muscles, ligaments, and nerves surrounding the shoulder. The removal in pressure allows the body to heal naturally.
Much like removing the stone from your shoe. Once the stone is gone, the wound will heal.
Correcting your spinal alignment with chiropractic care helps you get relief of shoulder pain as well as preventing the problem from returning in the future.
By ensuring your spine has great alignment it also takes pressure off your nervous system. Your nervous system is responsible for sending and receiving messages from your brain and body.
A clear communication pathway between the brain and body allows your body to heal and function at its very best.
