How does chiropractic work? This is a question we get a lot.
Have you ever wondered why a chiropractor’s primary focus is the spine?
Your brain and nervous system.
Your most valuable organ is the only organ protected entirely by bone. For good reason, it is the job of the brain and nervous system to send and receive messages between the brain and the body. These signals control how our body moves, heals, and functions every single day.
Your brain tells your body what to do, how to function and heal. Your body tells the brain what it needs help with. Every second there are literally millions of messages being sent between the brain and the body, all so you can go about your day. Pretty amazing hey!
All of these messages travel on the super highway that is your spinal cord, which lives inside your spine.
If your spinal alignment is poor, or the joints of your spine not working correctly, or your posture is off balance, the communication between your brain and your body can become ‘scrambled’. This means your body does not function at its best, this has two main consequences:
1. PAIN & DYSFUNCTION
If these messages are not getting through correctly, the brain can not coordinate the body effectively. This means that you are more potentially more likely to get injured or suffer from painful conditions such as headaches, neck pain, lower back pain plus many more.
Furthermore, if your spinal alignment aka your posture is poor, the increased pressure on various joints and body parts can causes problems. Much like the alignment of your car tyres…
If your car tyres are aligned correctly, your car will work well and the tyres will wear evenly. However, if your wheel alignment is ‘off’ it may cause issues elsewhere in the car, such as the steering.
Your spinal alignment is critical to the function of all other body parts.
2. STRESS ON YOUR NERVE SYSTEM
If your posture is poor, it can place extra stress on the nerve system. This means your body may not receive the correct messages from the brain, and vice versa. The results is your body not functioning at its very best.
Chiropractic is primarily concerned with improving spinal alignment, to establish clear communication between the brain and the body.
Improved posture can take pressure away from your body helping you move and feel better!
This is how chiropractic can help you live life fully!
OUR CHIROPRACTIC METHOD – Advanced Bio-Structural Correction (ABC™)
There are many chiropractic techniques out there, all of which aim to help improve the communication between the brain and the body.
The technique that we use is Advanced Bio-Structural Correction (ABC™). We use it because of the focus on posture and spinal alignment.
HOW IT WORKS:
ABC™ is a hands on approach to improving your spinal and whole-body alignment/posture. We use various stretches, and specific spinal adjustments to create optimal spinal alignment. This can take pressure off your body helping you feel great and get back to your very best.
ABC is a holistic approach to healthcare. In each adjustment we will check and adjust areas of your body that need assistance, from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet. In each adjustment we assess each and everyone of your vertebra, your hips and pelvis, your sacrum, your ribs, your knees, ankles and feet.
We do not just treat the symptoms, we treat your body as a whole.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
1. First Appointment – In your first appointment our #1 job is to listen to you so that we understand you, and your current problems. We take a very thorough clinical history where we investigate your health and what has lead you to get to this point.
Once we understand your history, we take a comprehensive examination to find the cause of your problem. We use chiropractic, postural, neurological, orthopedic and physical examinations, and if needed you may be referred out for x-rays.
We will then know if chiropractic is something that will help you. If so, it is likely you will be adjusted on your first or second visit. If we do not think we can help you, we will be sure to refer your to someone who can.
2. Report of Findings – In your second visit we will discuss our findings in more depth. We will explain to you how you got to this point in an easy to understand way. We will go over your x-rays if they were required. Here we will know how we can help you. We will then create a plan for your chiropractic care to get you well and help you achieve your health goals. Together we will create a schedule that works to get you the results you are searching for.
3, Regular Appointment – Once we know how to help you, and we have a schedule, your regular adjustments will move you closer to your goals. Regular appointments take around 10-15 minutes to complete.
4. Re-examinations – It is important that we know you are making the progress we expect to see. Which is why we reassess you on a regular basis. Comparing your progress and posture to when you started. This is our favourite part as we love seeing the changes in people.
